Parent Involvement

Parents can play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents at socializing sports.

Tournament Procedures

Tournaments are scheduled through the Chesapeake Region Volleyball Association (CHRVA) at the discretion of the coach. Tournaments are located in the MD, VA, DC area and held on Saturdays and Sundays. Coaches will provide players with a schedule of the tournaments they have requested. Tournaments are accepted and approved by CHRVA.  Our club will not have any control over the acceptance process.  It is possible that tournaments will not be confirmed until two weeks prior.  If declined, the coach will then seek another tournament.  Please be patient, players will be informed as soon as the club and coaches are informed of tournament acceptance or any changes.

All tournaments require teams to provide work crews.  Typically, a work crew includes a USAV registered adult, 2 line judges, a qualified scorekeeper, an assistant scorekeeper, down referee and a qualified up referee.  CHRVA also requires an adult to be court side for all Junior events.  The adult will be located at either the score table or behind the referee stand.  The adult is responsible for keeping the work team focused.  Teams must check with the Tournament Director before leaving the tournament.  We will need players from all teams to complete the scorekeeping and referee clinics online.  The CHRVA website, www.chrva.org, will direct you to the clinics.  Please see the tab above, Clinic for Scorekeepers/Referees.
